7 Techniques to Help You Battle Stress on a Daily Basis

image5Sadly, stress and anxiety have become common today and most people feel their effects to some extent. The fast-paced lifestyle combined with countless information that we are exposed to on a daily basis significantly contribute to our stress levels.

If you feel that you are exposed to a lot of stress, then you need to find ways to reduce it. Having long-term stress can lead to many health issues which are even more difficult to manage. The important thing is that everyone can help themselves deal with stress and without having to take any drugs.

Today we are going to give you 7 different techniques that you can use to effectively reduce stress and make your life easier overall.

Laugh as much as possible

image3Laughter has multiple positive effects on our emotional and physical well-being. When we laugh, we unload all the mental baggage that’s on our mind, no matter if we are worried about work, relationships, or school. On the other hand, laughter also lowers the level of cortisol in our body.

Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone and having less of it means less stress. Laughter also boosts endorphins in the brain and they have a positive effect on our mood. Spend time with people that make you smile, read comics, watch comedy shows, or whatever makes you laugh.

Start listening to music

There is a lot of research that shows how music can affect our mood, feelings, and emotions. If you don’t have a habit of listening to music every day, you should start doing it because it can help battle stress. Music that has a lot of atmospheric and relaxing sound effects can calm people down, slow down their heart rate, and alleviate stress.

Additionally, music helps you improve your emotional intelligence and can help people learn how to be better at handling their emotions. Explore your music taste, listen to different genres and see what works best for you and helps you decompress.

Get your body going

image4Regular physical activity not only makes you look better, but it makes you feel better and enhances your body’s ability to fight off diseases. At the same time, it also has positive effects on reducing stress levels short-term but can also help you learn how to resist stress overall.

Exercising promotes cognitive function, improves concentration, and helps reduce mental fatigues. This means that you will be able to deal with stress and fight it off more effectively while preserving your mental energy. When you are exercising, you’re not only building your muscles but your nervous system as well and it has a great effect on your mind.

Write down the things you’re grateful for

A lot of people like to keep their personal journals and there is a reason for this. This is an effective way to let your inner voice out and listen to what it has to say. Stress can be often caused by obsessive thinking on a certain topic that is troubling to a person. For example, if you are trying to get a promotion at work, you can be stressed out because you are constantly looking for ways to prove yourself.

We tend to focus on the things that are bothering us and that make us feel bad. This is why you need to write down the good things that happened to you during that day or week and remind yourself that not all is bad in your life. You need to focus on the positives and having gratitude can relieve stress.

Learn meditation

Both stress and anxiety are mostly caused by different life pressures we are constantly exposed to and are unable to cope with any more.

To put it simply, our mind doesn’t have the required amount of emotional resources and this is why we feel broken and stressed out. Meditation is a great technique for learning how to control stress and your emotions. It helps you go into a more positive state and improves mental fortitude for stressful situations that will happen in the future.

Aromatherapy

There is an ongoing myth about aromatherapy working like magic and helping people get rid of stress completely. It’s not magical, but it does help combat stress and carries some positive effects. One of the best things about aromatherapy is that there aren’t any side effects to it.

You can passively use aromatherapy by adding different scents around your home and letting them do their work. On the other hand, you can use it purposely during meditation or when taking a bath. It’s possible to combine it with various activities, so be creative. You can get aromatherapy products at any grocery store.

Use guided imagery

image2 1A simple but very effective technique for reducing stress is guided imagery. The method is simple, close your eyes and try to imagine places that make you feel safe and calm. Think about the place where you went on vacation or something similar. You can also use this technique to form images about other people, feelings, events, and so on.

You can combine this with aromatherapy and soak in the smell to help you immerse better into your thoughts and boost your imagination. This is how you can relax and get rid of all the distractions that lead to stress and see things more clearly.

No matter which technique you choose, make sure that you do it on a regular basis. It’s also generally a good idea to adopt several of the techniques that we mentioned today. Start changing your life today and get rid of all the pressure caused by stress!
